I read this book after a friend recommended it to me. It is a book of short stories that are spotlights on very precise moments in an evolving story of classic fifties and sixties Sci-Fi, full of uniforms, strong but lusty women, intrigue, plotting and scheming and exotic planets. It is really a love letter to those books, and, frankly, it is a real pleasure to read again a story like this. If you're reading this brief comment, I think you'll really like this book.

This was a slightly tied together group of stories all intersecting with the war and its aftermath between the Manderian Halden and the Federation Coalition. As in any war, there are atrocities on both sides. The stories drop you into their web and pull you in. Damaer's characters move and act on emotions and impulses we all can relate to. The stories were well written and concise and evoked emotion in me as well as the characters on the page. Definitely an interesting read.
I received this book for free and wished to leave a review.

A collection of tales with interlocking characters set in a futuristic sci-fi, multi alien plus AI plus advanced tech that looks magical plus raw animalistic sex. There's a lot here but it fits together and the level of detail helps you to build the world. A good addition to the previous book I read in this series/world.

EDITORIAL REVIEW
If you love to read loosely-connected short stories whose parts make up a larger whole, you will have a great time reading The Manderian Halden. Author Keyla Damaer crafts a believable fictional universe where internal and external conflicts provide the foundation for the tales. These tales are about people caught amidst extraordinary events, trying to navigate circumstances beyond their capacities. The somber tone and gritty feel of the narrative might remind readers of James S.A. Corey's bestselling sci-fi saga, The Expanse. Each character is filled to the brim with personality, with distinct struggles and motives that drive their actions. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't recommend it highly enough to sci-fi lovers.
